Oregon Coast to Canada...and back - Day 1

Thursday Sept 29

We had the van prepped for a couple of days, ready to leave at a moments notice...the time was now. This morning we loaded up the last few things and after locking up the house, we were Costco bound…needed a couple of prescriptions filled before we left for our two week northern adventure.

By 11:00 am we were north bound on highway 5. Our goal for today was to take I 5 to Sutherland. Next we would veer left towards Florence (the coast). Then turn right until you hit the town of Waldport, a quaint little village reminiscent of the New England coast. Our friends Tony and Carol Laenen offered us their beach house, if we wanted it. Our answer? That would be a YES! This will be phase 1 of our adventure.

Today, once we got off of I 5, we cruised 101 taking in the stunning coast line, farming villages and tourists sites like pay to see seal ions (there were none), or watching herds of elk getting ready for the upcoming winter. We arrived at the beach house by 5:00pm.

After supper, the three of us took a leisurely walk on the sunset drenched beach. We ended the day with a movie. Tomorrow we explore Waldport.
